YAG Ultra High Vacuum Viewports

MPF has created a NEW Ultra High Vacuum Viewport using YAG lens material. We have added YAG material to our long-standing traditional materials of Fused Silica and Sapphire. MPF has been manufacturing hermetically sealed viewports for over 30 years, and we are so excited about our NEW addition. This development continues in the tradition of MPF being ingenious and ground cutting in being problems solvers in the vacuum components and vacuum systems marketplace.

Why Yittrium Aluminum Garnett (YAG)?

Clear UnDoped YAG has excellent transmission properties (UV to IR ~ 250nm to
4200nm). It has High Thermal Conductivity and High Index of Refraction.

Unlike Sapphire – it is NonBirefringent.
Unlike Fused Silica – it is more durable.

Generic Data:

Transmission >80% over spectrum

Purity: >99%

Refraction: Index of 1.82

Material: Low Internal Stress, non-toxic, homogeneous, high Bulk Damage Threshold

Form: synethetic, cubic, crystal

Mechanical: it can be superpolished and achieve >1 Avg RMS

AR Coatings Available: YES

Where can you use YAG?

This material is being used in a variety of leading-edge physics disciplines. LED’s, high energy laser systems utilizing white light, materials processing, range finding lasers, and medical applications (like spectroscopy, ophthalmology, dermatology among others).

This new hermetic viewport material can be vacuum can be used at -196C to 450C and still maintain hermeticity at 1×10 -9 cc/sec He. We can place this material in standard vacuum mounting hardware (Conflat and Quick Flanges) and be shipped ready for your vacuum systems. Our hermetic sealing solution is ready to be placed in a 100% custom design, so please reach out to MPF so our Engineering Design Team can support your new RFQ.
